To help you navigate through your new journey, we will share with you a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and their answers to make your new transition as smooth as possible.
ABOUT ACADEMICS
Q1: Which department do I belong to?
You are part of the School of Government Audit (SGA), however, you will be managed by the School Of International Students (SIS), and your academic records are managed by School of Graduate (SG).
Q2: How do I register for classes?
Your required courses for the semester will be automatically registered by SIS management for your convenience.
Q3: How is the academic Curriculum Structured?
The courses that will be taught are mostly audit-related. Courses about Chinese culture and tradition will be taught as well to help you gain more knowledge about China.
Q4: Will I study Chinese language? Is it compulsory?
Yes. You will study Chinese language as part of your course (HSK1 to HSK3). It is compulsory but fun. You will be required to pass HSK 3 exam, which is a must for degree conferring.
Q5: Will I write quizzes and terminal exams?
a) No quizzes will be written, instead assignments will be given in the form of case study to be submitted in groups.
b) Also, Open books Examination and Term Papers (writing short essays on selected topics) are usually used as end of course assessment.
c) Notwithstanding, you will write a “written examination” on the Chinese Language course.
ABOUT CAMPUS LIFE
Q6: Are there orientation programs for new students?
Yes, School of International Students (SIS) will organize orientation sessions designed to help you get familiar with campus life, academic programs and available resources.
Q7: Will I get a student ID?
Yes, SIS will provide you with a student ID when you report to campus.
Q8: How do I access health care?
You can visit the campus Healthcare facility or the local hospital in Nanjing for health care services. The program provides a 800-yuan insurance specifically for foreigners in China. The policy of reimbursement will be introduced to you by SIS. For more accurate information, you can use the service line of the insurance company.
Q9: What are the accommodation options?
a) Accommodations are provided for students within campus. Two roommates with separate rooms.
b) It unnecessary to bring pillows and blankets. The room is furnished with these items. You can find some to buy if you want more.
Q10: What about utility bills?
The use of water and WIFI broadband are free on campus. You will be provided with a monthly subsidy of 180 RMB. Generally speaking, the subsidy can cover a month of regular use. If you consume more than that amount, you will have to pay by yourselves.
Q11: Should I carry food stuff from my home country?
a) Unless it is some special kind of food. Honestly, you will find delicious delicacies that are easy to adapt from the campus restaurants and supermarket.
b) Again, all kinds of agricultural produce can be found in the local market. You can prepare your own meal if you so desire.
Q12: Should I carry a lot of clothes with me?
We will recommend that you carry few clothes and some unique culture fabrics of your country. You will have access to abundant clothings, footwears and winter jackets that fits the climate here in Nanjing.
Q13: Should I carry some money with me?
Yes. We will recommend that you carry an amount not less than 1000 RMB (equivalent).
Q14: How do I get to change my local currency to (Chinese Currency) RMB?
First change from your local currency to (US dollar) in your home country. You can now change from (US dollar) to (RMB) when you land in China (Guangzhou Airport).
Q15: How do I navigate my way if I can’t read nor speak Chinese?
Almost all notices in public places are in Chinese and English. Most people in China, especially the (Airport Staff) can speak and understand English language as well.
Q16: Is it safe to ask for help?
Chinese people are very hospitable to foreigners and are always ready to assist them find comfort. Kindly ask for help or assistance where necessary.
Q17: What are some important Mobile Application to use?
Mobile Apps such as WeChat, Alipay, Pinduduo, Taobao are common applications that will help you in chatting, payments and online shopping.
Q18: How do I register for SIM card?
SIS will arrange for a SIM registration for all students. Including a bank account through which you can receive your monthly stipends.
