KACHAMBWA, TALENT

AUDIT STUDY PROGRAMME IN HENAN

The main objectives of the trip was to learn about poverty alleviation projects and the contribution of audit to the projects using Lankao County as casestudy. The field visit also enhanced our knowledge of Chinese culture. The greatest motivation to me was that it’s possible to eradicate poverty and that audit plays a key role in the process. Places visited were the Lankao Exhibition Hall, Hezhai Village, Lankao County Audit Bureau, Lankao Music Town and Xuchang Village, ZhangZhuang Village, Yellow River Bay Demonstration Area and Millenium City Park in Kaifeng City.

The journey started with us enjoying the high-speed train from Nanjing to Lankao with most of us being our first time to travel in with a high-speed train. Along the journey I enjoyed the great infrastructure of the rods, railway lines, buildings and the beautiful scenery of green fields and trees.

Lankao has a beautiful scenery. The county is rich in the Paulownia tree, clean environment. I enjoyed the hospitality of the NAU and Lankao delegates and staff at the Jiao Yulu Executive Leadership Academy. I also liked the delicious and salty cuisines served in Lankau and Kaifeng Grand hotel.

I learned that as people we need to pursue dreams of our fore fathers and make the world a better place. People of Lankao are pursuing the dreams of Jiao Yulu of planting trees and improving the standard of living. I was delighted to also see the Paulownia tree planted by Jiao Yulu himself. Jiao Yulu made great contributions and sacrifices for the Lankao County. I was inspired by his determination and inspiration he brought to the people.

A visit to the exhibition centre for pear factory was also inspiring. It was amazing that there was value beneficiation to pears. In addition to selling fresh pears, the village were also making pear wine, candy, juice, syrup and tea. I had the opportunity to taste the pear syrup, pear juice local sweet potatoes and groundnuts.

The first important aim to poverty alleviation is provision of food, ensuring that there is no hunger among people. Issues of health, shelter, education and others then follows. This was explained by the adage “eat before you dress.”

Lankao Music Town and Xuchang Village was also an exciting place where we learnt about the musical instrument industry. People were sustaining their livelihoods by being creative with the Paulwnia tree and making musical instruments. Families ran own businesses of making musical instruments to sell locally, nationally and internationally. I also had an opportunity to enjoy the soulful music played by the musical instruments.

I was inspired by the neatness of the ZhangZhuang village. It was my first time to see a rural village with a gym, musical area, library, convient shops, neatly tarred and paved roads and a hotel. Also amazing is the elderly people who were busy undertaking various projects like making shoes for charity and key cutting.

We managed to get a glimpse of the famous Yellow River and took some photos of the scenery at Yellow River Bay Demonstration Area. The happiness of the people living there was cool.

The tour at Millenium City Park was exciting enjoying the history of the city. The wide variety of the entertainment was awesome.

I would like to thank National Audit Office of China, Nanjing Audit University and Lankao Officials for organising such an educative field trip for the international students. The knowledge sharing experience provided us with true evidence and motivation about poverty alleviation. It was also an opportunity for an in-depth understanding of the geography, history, culture, governance and political system of China.
